One of the most anticipated astrological events that is happening in 2018 has officially started. For the first time in seven years, Uranus has moved signs. He has exited Aries and entered Taurus. It is the first time in 84 years since he has visited the sign of the bull, which makes this ingress even more monumental. What makes it so special is that more than any other signification Uranus possesses, change is the most direct way in which we feel the energy of this planet becoming manifest in our lives. A better way to describe this energy may be evolution. Uranus is the planet that shatters paradigms and preconceived notions. He is electric, ingenious, and unpredictable. By looking to our natal charts, we can see what area of our lives will experience this change. Uranus spends 7 years in each sign, so he will be in Taurus from now until 2025. In this article, we are going to explore the ideas of change and evolution, as well as how it applies to our daily lives.
A few more words on Uranus: he is one of the transpersonal planets. These planets are completely invisible to the naked eye and require the aid of a telescope in order to observe them from earth. This simple physical concept alone, gives us a big clue into how these outer planets operate. The planets from Saturn inward can all be observed simply by going out and looking upward into the night sky. If you have one of those cool apps on your phone, and you're in the right time of year, you can find and see them with your own eyes. Because of the observational nature these planets possess, we can directly see and connect to their manifestations in our daily, mundane lives. Mercury rules our communications and thoughts, Venus our relationships and possessions, Jupiter our education and opportunities for growth. But when it comes to the outer planets, their energy is on a much higher, metaphysical frequency. They operate in our psyche, and we are oftentimes totally unaware of how they influence our conscious state of mind. It requires a keen eye and some experience to pinpoint the ways in which these planets manifest. Uranus operates on this higher level. He governs our need to break down barriers, discover our true genius, and our capacity to evolve beyond our limited nature. The planet preceding him is Saturn, which directly represents limitation and boundaries. Uranus's placement beyond the limits of Saturn, indicates that he was placed there by the Light force in order to assist us in rising above the limits of our five senses and our past experiences.
For the last seven years, he has been transiting the sign of Aries, which is the sign of individuality and authentic self-expression. His influence can be seen in the many social movements and protests around the world. Me Too, Black Lives Matter, Marriage Equality, and even the Trump presidency embody this push from Uranus to break down the barriers that we face simply due to our personal identity. He has invigorated and electrified us in ways that help us to push back against limitations that inhibit individual and authentic self-expression. The warrior ram energy got us fired up and ready to battle anything that made us feel disenfranchised due to how we identify. It has also had some rather negative consequences. If left unchecked, Uranus can downgrade from evolution to mutation. His energy can become radioactive and manifest in ways that are not for the good of the collective. Consider selfie culture, white nationalism, and millennial entitlement. Luckily, Chiron moved out of Pisces and into Aries just as Uranus was leaving. Chiron will help us in healing and weeding out the unnecessary mutations in our society and within ourselves. More on that in a later article.
Now that he has left the fiery and bombastic energy of Aries and entered the more subdued and tranquil sign of Taurus, we are going to see a totally different manifestation of Uranus's unique energy. Aries is a cardinal fire sign. Cardinal energy is one of initiative and forward movement. Fire energy is just that, energy and life force. It consumes and desires. Hence we saw the populist movements moving forward ardently and oftentimes angrily. Taurus, however, is almost a total opposite. Taurus is a fixed earth sign. Fixed energy is that of permeance, loyalty, and slowness. Earth energy is that which is made manifest and physical such as our bodies, the chair your sitting in, and obviously, the earth herself. Aries is the sign of identity, and Taurus is the sign of that which we value. This includes our personal values and self-worth, possessions and property, as well as money and personal investments. On a mundane (world-wide) level, we will see the evolution of money markets, property values, and the earth itself. Just a few days before Uranus entered Taurus, the Kilauea volcano erupted. Here we see a direct manifestation where the earth, something conceivably permanent and immovable, has been lifted up, heated, and evolved into a new form. Personal property such as homes, vehicles, and land are no longer present. This change was unexpected and has forced many people to reevaluate that which they considered would always be there. I won't sugar coat it; the changes Uranus brings are not always welcome, particularly in this sign.
Consider the new wave of crypto currency that is now beginning to take hold. Back when Uranus was last in Taurus in 1934, the world was experiencing the Great Depression. Banking and money handling changed forever, and everything that we know today that is related to our finances can be traced back to that time period. Money was becoming less physical and evolving to something more virtual. We are now beginning to see a new evolution in the way currency and its exchange are conceptualized. We can see now that while many good things came out of that time frame, they are no longer serving the needs of our modern world, and in many ways, they are limiting it. You can see the push back from banks, established entrepreneurs, and investors against crypto currencies signaling the difficulty in change that this area of human existence tends to experience. This is the fixedness of Taurus. The energy is very difficult to evolve and change. It prefers reliability, familiarity, and comfort with that which is already known. There is an aversion to newness and freshness simply because the outcomes are unpredictable. These changes, whether we like them or not, whether we embrace them or not, are coming. What determines the difference between one who thrives and one who drowns? Whether we bend and push ourselves to be flexible or not.
What does change indicate Kabblistically? Simply put, change equals growth. According to the kabbalists, we came into this world in order to become the co-creators of all that brings us happiness and fulfillment. Our collective soul decided that we did not want to sit idly by and passively receive the Creator's beneficence, which is the state our souls existed in prior to the creation of this physical reality. Whenever you receive something that you have not worked for, does it feel as good as when you receive something that you have worked for? The answer is no. And if it does, that sense of fulfillment that comes from it quickly fades away. When we exert our creator nature into this physical world and proactively build and contribute to that which brings us happiness, we become co-creators of those things, and the fulfillment that we receive from them is lasting. Therefore, change is an indication that our capacity to co-create is growing. I say co-create because we also need the assistance of the Creator in all of our endeavors. When we embrace change and allow ourselves to evolve with the turning tides, we merge with the universal ebb and flow, which will subsequently allow us to break limits we previously thought were unbreakable.
Our minds have the capacity to transcend the limits of our physical world, but our fives senses weigh us down. For example, I am sitting in a room that has four walls. My eyes and ears do not perceive anything beyond these four walls. My mind, however, knows that outside, lies an entire universe filled with natural wonders and endless opportunity. Our physical world works very much the same way. Just as a parrot who lives in Brazil, has no conscious conceptualization that there is another parrot in Indonesia, so too are we limited by our five senses. These senses are very much connected to the earth element in our universe, a.k.a. that which is manifest and physical. With our consciousness, we have the capacity to go beyond that which we perceive limits us. If you have ever tried that exercise where you raise your hand as high as you think you can, then someone tells you to raise it higher, you have seen and experienced your capacity to go beyond your self-imposed limits. Miraculously, your hand elevates to a higher space. When we consciously decide that we are willing to go beyond what we think we are capable of doing, we overcome the fixed earth quality in ourselves. Uranus has been placed in Taurus by the Light in order to give us the push we need to break down those limits and transcend to a higher capacity to create more. This in turn, brings us to a higher level of happiness and fulfillment.
As I said before, when we look to our natal charts, we can find those areas that we are most stubborn and resistant to change. Knowing that Uranus will be there for the next seven years, we can begin to become conscious of how and when we need to be flexible. Below I have listed the areas where you will experience these shifts based on your sun and/or rising sign. I recommend going by your rising sign, which will point you in the most accurate direction:
♈️Aries: banks, malls, money, and property ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ♉️Taurus: individuality, self expression, and initiative ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ♊️Gemini: inner feelings, need to get away, and hibernating ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ♋️Cancer: community, groups of friends, aspirations ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ♌️Leo: career, goals, achievement ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ♍️Virgo: places of higher learning such as universities, churches, and libraries ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ♎️Libra: shared resources, support you give/receive from others, sexuality ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ♏️Scorpio: partners both marital and professional, enemies ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ♐️Sagittarius: daily routine, scheduling, health ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ♑️Capricorn: creativity, romance, parties ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ♒️Aquarius: family, parents, getting back to your roots ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ♓️Pisces: neighbors, relatives, and teachers
This is a new and exciting era of our personal and collective evolution. Embrace it with gratitude and joyous expectation. Because when we change what we thought was unchangeable, we can draw a tremendous capacity for newness and greater value to our lives and ourselves.
